When you buy a new pair of glasses, there are a few things that you must consider. From the frame shape to your lifestyle, everything together helps you make the right decision.
Shopping for glasses online is as easy as it could get. You can browse through hundreds (if not thousands) of frame styles and choose the best one for yourself. And if you don’t like a colour, no worries, you can get the same style in the colour you want.
But, no matter how easy it becomes to buy glasses online, some people hesitate to go for them. They fear that they might end up with the wrong size frame.
While it’s definitely something that most people often worry about when purchasing eyewear from online stores, this problem can easily be taken care of. If you don’t know, we’ll show you how.

Identify your Face Shape
Just like our body type, our face shape is different from others. This is why the glasses you saw on your friend won’t work for you if you guys have different face shapes.
Now if you don’t know what your face shape is, you can identify it with a few steps.
Here are the things you should consider:
- Your forehead
- Your cheekbones
- Your jawline
Now, if the length and width of your face are more or less the same, then it’s either round or square. If your face has visible lines, angles and a strong jawline, then it is shaped like a square. But, if it has beautiful curves and a round chin, then it’s a round face shape.
If the cheekbones are the broadest part of your symmetry and lead to a pointy chin, then you either have a heart-shaped or a diamond face. However, a heart-shaped face only has a narrow forehead, but in the case of a diamond shape, the eye line is narrow as well.
An oblong face shape is two times its width. But if your facial features are perfectly balanced, then you most probably have an oval face.
Buy for Your Face Shape
Round face shape looks better in angular silhouettes such as square or rectangle frames. They will add angles to your profile and contour your natural symmetry.
The bold angles of a square face can be softened with curvy or round glasses. Go for thin round metal rims as the chunky acetate makes your look even bolder.
Frames with exaggerated top rims such as cat-eye or wayfarer fit perfectly on a heart-shaped face. They make your forehead look broad so people are not staring at your wide cheekbones.
Oblong face shapes can be a little hard to buy for. Thick square glasses are the best option for you. Glasses with decorative temples and a minimal frame front will add some width to your face making it look more balanced.
Oval face shapes can try any frame style as their balanced profile looks good in everything. However, make sure you don’t go for circle glasses that are overtly round.
If you have a diamond face shape, try browline or cat-eye frames to take attention from the narrow bottom part of your face.
Use your Old Frame
The best way to get your facial measurements right is to use your old frame. If it used to fit you like a glove, you can use its measurements to ascertain the size of your new glasses.
Note down the following numbers of your old frame:
- Lens width
- The length of the temple arms
- Width of the nose bridge
Once you have taken down these figures, use this information when placing the order for your new frame. Entering the facial measurements is easy but if you feel any difficulty, take the help of the optical staff.
Use Malleable Frame Materials
Little adjustments and tweaks can be done on your own. But for this to happen, the frame material should be flexible. Titanium glasses are bendy and easy to bend down to a certain shape with little pressure on your hand.
No matter what frame style you are going for, make sure the frame is flexible. For instance, when buying retro glasses, look for the ones with titanium frames. But if you have them in acetate, the frame will require a little heat to become soft.
Use a blow dryer on your frames for a few seconds and when the frame becomes a little warm, give it a little pressure to get it into a certain shape.
